tongue over her lower lip, then turned his head to delve deeper into her mouth.
"Over here," a voice shouted from the woods to their left.
They both tensed, frozen in a kiss, as though the lava from Pompeii had stilled them forever in the middle of the embrace.
Chris inched his mouth away from hers. "Shh," he whispered at the same time she did, warm breath mingling against damp lips.
Five bobbing lights approached the cabin from the far side of the forest. The lights solidified into flashlight beams and five men. They came around to the front of the house and stopped. D.J. took Chris's hand, and they crept closer to the cabin until they could see and hear everything clearly.
"They didn't come back," one of them said.
Though the night was dark and he couldn't see their faces clearly, Chris recognized the menthe three who had attacked him in Outgamie, a fourth who must have driven the van, and the man he now knew to be Rich Halloran.
"They will," Rich stated. "And if they don't, I'll find them tomorrow. We'll wait here overnight. Come on." He flicked his flashlight beam toward the house. "I didn't get to finish searching the place before you morons called me to come and show you the way. Let's finish it now."
"If we find the picture, we can get out of here tonight," the first man said as he walked toward the cabin. "I fuckin' hate the woods."
